UK–Africa Investment Summit Opens New Opportunities for Housing and Urbanisation

The recently concluded 16th UK–Africa Investment Summit 2026 in London presented significant opportunities for advancing investment in housing, real estate, infrastructure and sustainable urbanisation across Uganda and the wider African continent.

Held under the theme, “Trade Corridors and Industrial Platforms: From Access to Production,” the Summit brought together government leaders, diplomats, institutional investors, banks, development finance institutions, manufacturers and project sponsors from Africa, the United Kingdom, India and the Middle East.

During the Summit, I engaged with several investors who expressed strong interest in Africa’s expanding housing and real estate sector. These engagements revealed a growing international appetite for affordable housing, mixed-use developments, gated communities, green buildings, sustainable infrastructure and smart-city projects.

This represents an important win for Uganda and Africa’s urbanisation journey.

Africa is urbanising rapidly, creating unprecedented demand for well-planned communities, quality housing, efficient transport, reliable utilities and modern social infrastructure. Uganda’s growing population, expanding middle class and strategic location make it an increasingly attractive destination for long-term investment in housing and urban development.

However, urbanisation should be treated as more than the construction of buildings. It requires an integrated approach that connects housing with roads, energy, water, sanitation, technology, employment, healthcare, education and environmental sustainability.

The investor interest generated at the Summit demonstrated that international capital is available. What Africa should provide are credible, well-structured and investment-ready projects supported by transparent policies, bankable financing models and dependable local partners.

The private sector, governments and development institutions should work together to de-risk investment, unlock land, expand affordable financing and accelerate project implementation.

The Summit also created opportunities to position Eco Housing Solutions Africa’s vision of promoting affordable housing, smart cities and sustainable urban development before an influential international audience.

The conversations initiated in London should now be translated into partnerships and projects on the ground. If followed through with discipline and urgency, they can deliver quality homes, modern infrastructure, employment and more inclusive cities.

UKAIS 2026 affirmed that Africa’s urbanisation challenge is equally one of its greatest investment opportunities. This momentum provides a major opportunity to build tomorrow’s cities today.
