Nearly 300 delegates from government, finance, real estate, construction, academia and the private sector convened in Kampala for the Urbanisation Forum, a high-level platform dedicated to shaping sustainable, inclusive and investment-ready cities.
Hosted by Eco Housing Solutions Africa (EHS) under the theme “Building Tomorrow’s Cities Today,” the Forum examined the urgent priorities defining Uganda’s urban future, including affordable housing, infrastructure development, physical planning, green financing and climate-resilient growth.
The Chief Guest, Hon. Diana Mutasingwa, called for stronger collaboration between government, investors and communities to ensure that Uganda’s rapid urban growth translates into opportunity and improved living standards.
“Urbanisation should be deliberate, inclusive and anchored in the needs of our people,” Hon. Mutasingwa said. “The decisions and investments we make today will determine the quality, resilience and competitiveness of our cities for generations.”
Dr. Edwin Musiime, Group Managing Director of EHS and Convener of the Forum, said Africa must move from discussing urban challenges to implementing practical, scalable solutions.
“Tomorrow’s cities are not built tomorrow; they are shaped by the policies, partnerships and investments we make today,” Dr. Musiime said. “Our responsibility is to create cities that provide dignified housing, efficient infrastructure, economic opportunity and a sustainable future for every citizen.”
The Forum featured contributions from Eng. Kenneth Kaijuka, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of National Housing and Construction Company; the Managing Director of KCB Bank Uganda; Benon Moses Kigenyi KCCA’s Director of Physical Planning; Moses Lutalo, Managing Director of Broll Uganda; and international urban development advocate Windy Shen, among other distinguished speakers.
Discussions emphasised innovative housing finance, coordinated urban planning, modern construction, public-private partnerships and environmentally responsible development.
The Kampala gathering concluded with a renewed commitment to transform the Forum into a continuing action platform connecting policy, capital, expertise and innovation in support of Uganda’s urbanisation agenda.
